Declaration in Different Languages
ALAAP DECLARATION OF
PEACE AND TRUTH (ADOPT)
We,
the artists, singers, poets, novelists, instrumentalists, painters,
theatre performers, sculptors, dancers; journalists, lawyers,
academics, research scholars and peace activists of Pakistan (and of the entire
world), both senior in age and fresh in resolve, indigenous as well as modern;
-
Recalling the peace message of all the religions, Holy
prophets and soulful saints;
-
Reflecting upon the great cultural and intellectual
heritage of Pakistan, created by countless thinkers, artists and social
reformers;
-
Reaffirming the democratic ideals of Pakistan, as defined
by Quide-e-Azam on 11th of August 1947;
-
Recognizing the increasing social, political and
religious violence that is eroding the Peace-Culture of Pakistan;
-
Recalling the universal Declaration of Human Rights and
other resolutions of UNO on peace and human dignity;
-
Expressing deep concern on the persistent proliferation
of weapons and conflicts in various parts of the world;
Solemnly declare:
-
That we uphold and will continue to uphold the democratic
vision of Pakistan as a peaceful, multi-cultural state with equal rights to
all the social, political, religious, tribal, ethnic or sectarian
identities.

That we visualize Pakistan as the home of peaceful
citizens enjoying all the human rights, enshrined in the constitution,
protected by an independent judiciary.

That we reject all the violence at all levels from
individual to group, from group to community, from community to country and
from country to globe, perpetrated in the name of sect, religion, honor,
caste, ethnic or tribal identity or the so-called national security.
-
That we hold children, all of them, as the most precious
gift of God and the shared future of the entire nation and will resist
attacks on them for the furtherance of narrow ends.

That we will not allow any ripple effect of any national,
regional or international political complications to distort the
Inter-Cultural and Inter-Religions harmony in the society of Pakistan.

That the holy scripts, places of worship, sacred
personalities of all religions including their monuments that represent the
cultural depth of Pakistan, are respectable and highly precious to all the
Pakistanis and worthy of their total respect.

That we endorse all the efforts at national, regional and
international levels, to promote the arts as the most profound peace
activism.
-
That we believe in the freedom of expression and the
right to information as the cornerstone of the democratic and civilized
society of Pakistan.
