ALAAP DECLARATION OF

PEACE AND TRUTH (ADOPT)

We,
the artists, singers, poets, novelists, instrumentalists, painters,
theatre performers, sculptors, dancers; journalists, lawyers,
academics, research scholars and peace activists of Pakistan (and of the entire world), both senior in age and fresh in resolve, indigenous as well as modern;

  • Recalling the peace message of all the religions, Holy prophets and soulful saints;

  • Reflecting upon the great cultural and intellectual heritage of Pakistan, created by countless thinkers, artists and social reformers;

  • Reaffirming the democratic ideals of Pakistan, as defined by Quide-e-Azam on 11th of August 1947;

  • Recognizing the increasing social, political and religious violence that is eroding the Peace-Culture of Pakistan;

  • Recalling the universal Declaration of Human Rights and other resolutions of UNO on peace and human dignity;

  • Expressing deep concern on the persistent proliferation of weapons and conflicts in various parts of the world;

Solemnly declare:

  • That we uphold and will continue to uphold the democratic vision of Pakistan as a peaceful, multi-cultural state with equal rights to all the social, political, religious, tribal, ethnic or sectarian identities.

  • That we visualize Pakistan as the home of peaceful citizens enjoying all the human rights, enshrined in the constitution, protected by an independent judiciary.

  • That we reject all the violence at all levels from individual to group, from group to community, from community to country and from country to globe, perpetrated in the name of sect, religion, honor, caste, ethnic or tribal identity or the so-called national security.

  • That we hold children, all of them, as the most precious gift of God and the shared future of the entire nation and will resist attacks on them for the furtherance of narrow ends.

  • That we will not allow any ripple effect of any national, regional or international political complications to distort the Inter-Cultural and Inter-Religions harmony in the society of Pakistan.

  • That the holy scripts, places of worship, sacred personalities of all religions including their monuments that represent the cultural depth of Pakistan, are respectable and highly precious to all the Pakistanis and worthy of their total respect.

  • That we endorse all the efforts at national, regional and international levels, to promote the arts as the most profound peace activism.

  • That we believe in the freedom of expression and the right to information as the cornerstone of the democratic and civilized society of Pakistan.
